It is Thanksgiving in Canada!

Since it is the long Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, I thought I should write my annual “Rant” in which I state what I am truly thankful for this year. There is some criteria in place however, as I am always thankful for my daughter, my family, my friends, my job and everything that I have in this life. I do it a bit differently with this yearly rant. I like to discuss what I am thankful for in regards to passions of mine.

So without further wait… is what I am thankful for!

#1 – Floor Jansen joins Nightwish officially!!!

Tuomas Holopainen (Nightwish founder) and Floor Jansen

I simply can not state how ecstatic I am to know that the beautiful and talented Floor Jansen will be handling the singing chores for one of my favorite bands. The simplest way to put it is to say that sometimes in this life we stumble across something that just fits, it just seems “right.” You don’t question it or over think it, as you know that everything has aligned perfectly for the event or moment to happen. That is how I feel about the ReVamp vocalist stepping into the shoes once worn by Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzon. The new Nightwish blu ray is out at the end of November in Finland and check out the excerpt below.

#2 – The Walking Dead Returns!!!

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) - The Walking Dead - Season

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) – The Walking Dead

I am extremely pumped that tonight on AMC we will see the return of The Walking Dead for it’s fourth season! This is one of my favorite shows and I admit I was slow getting to the dance on this one but now I am nothing but a dancing fool! It took me years for me to finally sit down and watch the show as I was all “zombies out,” but once I finally bit the bullet and let myself be immersed in what was going on, I became hooked. I now own all 3 seasons on blu ray and can not wait to buy the fourth.

#3 – Only weeks until Thor: The Dark World

Thor and Loki

Thor and Loki

As excited as I am for the new season of The Walking Dead, I may be 20 times as excited for the next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe……Thor: The Dark World. The movies looks to be the best comic book/super hero movie this year and truly looks to have tapped the “fantasy” genre that the first movie was toeing the line of but never really delved into. This movie could possibly open the door to more fantasy characters entering the world of The Avengers and I am counting down the days to see my favorite comic book hero on the big screen again!

#4 – The Return Of Hockey and The Kid

Sidney Crosby

Sidney Crosby

I love hockey and have been a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins for over 25 years and it is with open arms that I welcome the new NHL season and a healthy Sidney Crosby. People will give Crosby a lot of flack and most of it is unwarranted, but the truth of the matter is….he is the best player in the world today. Watching Sid play is a true delight and I feel blessed to have the chance to have him play on my favorite team. In my “career” as a Penguins fan I was able to watch Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr, Ron Francis, Paul Coffey, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Not too shabby.

#5 – The Comic Hunter

I can not thank Remi and the rest of the staff at “The Comic Hunter” in Moncton, New Brunswick. They have provided a way for a guy who loves comics but no stores nearby to have access to his favorite titles and characters. Remi handles a pull list for me on a weekly basis and every 3 to 4 months I will settle up the amount and wait for him to ship the books to me. He will sometimes throw in books that he thinks would be right up my alley and he is almost 100% correct everytime. Thank you guys for doing what you di and being who you are!!

What are you thankful for this holiday season?
