INT. DARK ROOM WITH A TELEVISION SET

A NEWS BROADCAST FADES IN ON THE TELEVISION AS IT POWERS ON. THE ANCHOR MAN SITS CALMLY AND STARTS TO READ FROM THE TELEPROMPTER.

NEWS ANCHOR

Another child is missing from the village of Cheddar today. That is the tenth child in the last 15 days and the thirty-third person overall in the past two months.

THE TELEVISION IS THEN CHANGED TO AN ALL NEWS CHANNEL. A FEMALE REPORTER STANDING ON THE SIDE OF A ROAD AND IN FRONT OF A ROAD SIGN THAT STATES “WELCOME TO CHEDDAR”

REPORTER

There is a growing sense of dread and a lingering fear enveloping the small village of Cheddar as the list of missing villagers continues to grow.

ONCE AGAIN THE TELEVISION HAS THE CHANNEL CHANGED. THIS TIME IT LANDS ON A CHANNEL WITH A YOUNG WOMAN IN HER EARLY 20’S. SHE HAS A STUDIO AUDIENCE AND IS BANTERING WITH THEM IN SOME FORM OF INTERACTIVE TALK SHOW.

TALK SHOW HOST

Today on “Vickie!” My boyfriend is a vampire, he doesn’t sparkle but his eyes sure do!

VIEW FADES BACKWARDS TOWARDS THE VIEWER.

SOMEONE IS SITTING IN A LARGE LEATHER CHAIR WATCHING THE TELEVISION SET.

UNKNOWN PERSON

Walter. Inform him that he is now cleared to engage the target in Cheddar. His order is to search and destroy. I repeat, search and destroy.

A MAN IN HIS EARLY SIXTIES APPEARS FROM THE LEFT AND BOWS SLOWLY WITH HIS LEFT ARM BEHIND HIS BACK.

WALTER

Right away Sir Integra. He will be quite pleased I am sure.

FADE TO:  A VILLAGE AT DUSK. THE VIEW PANS AS IF THE CAMERA IS TRAVELLING THE STREETS, SHOWING MANY HOMES AND SHOPS BUT ALL OF THEM DARK. LIFELESS. THE SOUND OF MULTIPLE CARS SLOWING TO A STOP IS HEARD OF SCREEN.

POLICE OFFICER

This is the place. Dispatch said that they had a 911 call from a church.

INT. POLICE CAR – A YOUNG WOMAN SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT NERVOUSLY AS SHE WATCHES THE OTHER TWO OFFICERS EXIT THE TWO VEHICLES. TAKING A DEEP BREATH SHE STEPS OUT INTO THE DARKENED VILLAGE.

SERAS VICTORIA

Seems awful quiet. Are you sure this is the right place?

POLICE OFFICER

Seems so. The call came from the village of Cheddar. That sign over there says that is where we are.

THE SECOND OFFICER TURNS TO LOOK AT THE SIGN THAT THE FIRST OFFICER IS REFERENCING. SERAS NODS AS SHE READS THE LARGE ORANGE LETTERING THAT STATES “WELCOME TO CHEDDAR”

SERAS VICTORIA

Well, I guess that confirms it then. Into the village to find the church then?

THE OTHER TWO OFFICERS NOD AT HER, AS THEY TURN ON THEIR FLASHLIGHTS. THE SECOND OFFICER TRIES TO REACH POLICE DISPATCH BUT HIS RADIO CRACKLES LOUDLY AND APPEARS TO BE INEFFECTIVE. SERAS VICTORIA NERVOUSLY SCANS HER IMMEDIATE AREA.

SERAS VICTORIA

Ummm, does anyone have any idea which way?

THE FIRST OFFICER SHRUGS AND USES THE FLASHLIGHT TO ILLUMINATE THE DARKNESS HEADED INTO THE HEART OF THE VILLAGE.

FIRST POLICE OFFICER

Not really sure Rookie. But if we just stand around here chatting, we will never find it will we? Come on now, let’s go.

SECOND POLICE OFFICER

Don’t be afraid kitten, I am sure this is all nothing. We will stop at that quaint coffee shop we passed on the way when we are finished here.

AS THE TWO POLICEMEN WALK INTO THE VILLAGE, THEY PAN THEIR FLASHLIGHTS IN ALL DIRECTIONS AS THEY LOOK FOR THE CHURCH. SERAS VICTORIA SHIVERS AS THE WIND BLOWS. SHE NOTICES NO SIGNS OF LIFE AND IT IS UNSETTLING TO HER.

SERAS VICTORIA

It looks like no one has lived here for a long time.

SECOND POLICE OFFICER

well, someone must have been living here recently Kitten because someone called in a 911 call did they not?

FIRST POLICE OFFICER

I do agree Rookie that this place looks like a ghost town but Cheddar was bustling with people weeks ago. My sister was here visiting her friend.

AS THE THREE OFFICERS SLOWLY MAKE THEIR WAY THROUGH THE DESERTED STREETS, THEY BEGIN TO HEAR RUSTLING AMIDST THE DARKNESS. ALL THREE UNHOLSTER THEIR WEAPONS AND POINT THEM TOWARDS THE SOUND THAT SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM EVERYWHERE.

SERAS VICTORIA

W-w-what was that??? Do you guys hear that??

FIRST POLICE OFFICER

Easy! Calm down Rookie. Everything is ok.

THE SECOND POLICE OFFICER HOLSTERS HIS WEAPON AND CUPS HIS HANDS TO HIS MOUTH AS HE BEGINS TO SHOUT.

SECOND POLICE OFFICER

Hello! This is the Metropolitan Police. Is there anyone there? we received a call that someone needed assistance.

SERAS VICTORIA

(Softly) I  don’t think we are alone here.

THE FIRST POLICE OFFICER WALKS UP BESIDE SERAS AND TAPS HER ON THE SHOULDER TO REASSURE HER. HE THEN STARTS TO YELL TO ANYONE IN THE DARK VILLAGE.

FIRST POLICE OFFICER

We can help you if you are in trouble. Please, come out so we can help you.

ALL THREE LOOK ABOUT THEM FRANTICALLY AS THE RUSTLING BECOMES MORE INTENSE AND ONCE AGAIN SEEMS TO BE ALL AROUND THEM.

SERAS VICTORIA

(frantic) What the hell is going on?? Where is that noise coming from?!?!

A LOUD RUSTLING IS ACCENTED WITH A LOUD SCREAM OF TERROR AS THE SECOND POLICE OFFICER IS PULLED INTO THE DARKNESS BY SOME UNSEEN FORCE. THE FIRST OFFICER REACHES FOR THE SECOND BUT IS TOO LATE TO GRAB ON TO HIM.

FIRST POLICE OFFICER

(screaming) Jim…..No!!!!

SERAS VICTORIA FIRES HER GUN IN THE AIR TO TRY TO FRIGHTEN WHATEVER IS UNSEEN IN THE DARKNESS. THE FIRST OFFICER RUNS UP TO HER AND GRABS HER BY THE WRIST AS LOUD GROWLS AND MOANING ESCAPES FROM THE DARKNESS.

FIRST POLICE OFFICER

We have to get out of here Rookie!! Let’s get back to the car…now!!!
