Iron Man 3 Thoughts

With the Iron Man 3 tv trailer, and the extended trailer via the movie’s Facebook page, we were able see a few new scenes from the upcoming Marvel movie block buster. Iron Man has a very difficult task as it has to follow up the greatest super hero/comic book movie of all time in The Avengers, but it may only be Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man that could possibly be successful in that role.

What we can determine from the trailer is that it is not going to be all fun and games for Tony Stark in this film, although I am sure he will still have a few classic one liners. It looks as though The Mandarin will be making prescense known by sinling out Tony Stark as a target. He seems to want to make an example out of him.

Iron Man looking a little beat up

We have witnessed Iron Man deal with the realization of what his weapons were doing across the world, his near death from being injured by those weapons, the corruption of a trusted friend, the revenge of a father’s enemy, the poisoning of his body by the one thing keeping him alive, standing face to face with an evil god and an alien invasion. For some reason though, this movie makes me feel like Tony Stark is in much more danger than in the other occurences……and I like it.

There is a serious “weight” to the trailer that makes you feel like Iron Man will under go some serious changes in this movie. Not just in technology or armour but also in who he is. The Mandarin may be Iron Man’s greatest enemy and I like that we finally get to see him on the big screen.

War Machine as The Iron Patriot

I am still on the fence about the entire War Machine/Iron Patriot scenerio. I know that they could not have Norman Osborne reprise the role from the comic books (I think that is why the color scheme is different) but there is some potential for the situation. I do believe that the US Government would want to do something to mark the suit of armour as “their’s” but I was more hoping that we may see someone else in the suit other than James Rhodes. Maybe someone handpicked to replace him as the Government feels his relationship with Tony Stark has compromised him.

It is also going to be interesting to see what type of impact the events of The Avengers had on Tony Stark, Pepper Potts, James Rhodes and the world as a whole. Will we see cameos from S.H.I.E.L.D. this time around? or by any yet to be seen Avengers such as Carol Danvers? Will the post credits scene ramp us up to the Avengers sequel or the next Marvel movie Thor: The Dark World or perhaps it will start the set up for The Guardians Of The Galaxy or maybe just maybe it will give us more insight into Thanos?

One thing is for sure, Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will kick off with Iron Man 3 and I can not wait for it all to start.
