It should really not be a huge surprise to anyone that since I love both music and movies, that there are a few songs from movie sound tracks that I really enjoy. I tried to compile a list of 5 songs that have stayed with me after hearing them in a movie at some point and it was really hard to narrow the list down to so few.
I could have listed over 20 songs in all honesty but I really sat here for over an hour and tried to think of movie soundtracks and see what came to me off of the top of my head. These 5 songs did and are the 5 that will be highlighted in no particular order.
Live To Rise by Soundgarden (The Avengers)
When this song played during the credits of The Avengers and after we had the very cool sequence that highlighted the costumes and weapons of the team, it really stuck with me. It is one of the few times in my life I remember tearing up a little during the credits of a movie. I knew I had just witnessed one of the greatest films I would ever see and a movie that was brave enough to do something that no other dare tried….combine multiple franchises. This song reminds me of that movie and that moment of awe.
It Can’t Rain All The Time by Jane Siberry (The Crow)
There may not ever be a movie that hits me emotionally as The Crow does. Yes, I am a helpless romantic and I will admit that but you have to admit that the idea that loving someone so much will transcend death is a powerful premise. The story of Eric and Shelly is so tragic but also so hopeful. There is hope that if we do find someone we love so much, so fully and so unconditionally….that it will stay with us forever.
The Touch by Stan Bush (Transformers The Movie)
I can still remember when I went to see this movie over 25 years ago in theatre with my friends and this song played when Optimus Prime decided to make a stand against the invading Decepticon armada. It was a poetic scene that displayed how good and pure the ideals of the Autobots were and led us to the big moment where Prime and Megatron fought until the death. That sequence alone jarred me as I never saw a Transformer die until that movie and as a young kid it stays with you.
Shoot To Thrill by AC/DC (Iron Man 2)
I have to say that this song was also in The Avengers when Iron Man appears in Germany to bring Loki into custody. The opening of the Stark Expo in Iron Man 2 really set the tone for the entire film and the soundtrack that played during Tony’s bombastic entrance was perfect! AC/DC contributed every song to the official movie soundtrack and I for one, am very glad that they did!
Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr (Ghostbusters)
What can I say? I am a huge Ghostbusters fan and the song is one of the catchiest I have ever heard. Although rather simple compared to some of the others on this list, the song sells the movie better than any other promotional material or trailer could. It captures what made the movie so perfect. The humor and lack of taking itself seriously makes it the perfect fit.
So what are somne of your favorite songs that have graced the soundtracks of your favorite movies?
