Avengers Trivia #46-41

Avengers Trivia Fact #46

Did you know that one of a very select few mortals to wield Mjolnir was Steven Rogers aka Captain America?

There are two instances that this took place. The first was when Seth The Egyptian God Of Death invaded Asgard and Earth. The US Government stripped Rogers of the title of Captain America and the costume when he refused to blindly follow his own Government’s orders. He wore a modified black version of his costume and called himself “The Captain.” During this huge battle, Thor was separated from his hammer and Rogers reached for it instinctively to use as a weapon. He was deemed worthy of the enchantment and could wield the hammer.

This past year Thor died at the hands of The Serpent. As Thor fell to Earth dying, his hammer landed near Captain America. Realizing the need to rally the heroes who just witnessed Thor fall, Rogers picked the hammer up above his head and yelled “Avengers Assemble!” which inspired his fellow heroes and also caused them to gather around the fallen Thunder God.

This is part of the dynamic of their friendship, as there is a bond that Thor will sometimes refer to as a “Hammer Brother” with Captain America. There is a respect, admiration and friendship that they share.

Avengers Trivia Fact #45

Did you know that the choice of Loki for the villain in the Avengers movie is based on the fact that back in September 1960, he was also the viallin that the team fought in The Avengers #1?

In the original comic book story, Loki manipulated the Hulk into destroying a rail road track and then diverted the call for help to only Thor. He was hoping to cause Thor and Hulk to battle but he did not realize that Ant Man, The Wasp and Iron Man received the call as well. After initially battling each other, the team united to stop Loki.

In the movie all we know is Loki disappeared at the end of Thor into the abyss and has returned to conquer Earth with an army. S.H.I.E.L.D. has recruited Captain America, The Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye to battle the creatures that Loki brought to our world.

Avengers Trivia Fact #44

There has been many heroes who have called The Avengers home throughout their life as a crime fighter but there have been members who were either parts of other teams at the same time or were not known as being the easiest to place into a group.

The most surprising additions to an Avengers roster were the decisions to include Wolverine, Beast and Storm of the X-men, Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman of the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Nova, Valkyrie and even the loner known as Moon Knight.

There have been many teams that have called themselves “Avengers” as well. The original Avengers, The West Coast Avengers, The New Avengers, The Mighty Avengers, The Secret Avengers and even the villain group who pretended to be heroes named The Dark Avengers.

Avengers Trivia Fact #43

Did you know unlike the blockbuster Marvel movie this summer, that Captain America was NOT an original and founding member of The Avengers? The original issue saw the founding group as Thor, Iron Man, The Hulk, Ant Man and The Wasp.

However after issue one, The hulk left the team and in issue 4 Captain America was discovered frozen in ice by the team. He was “given” founding member status as Hulk’s replacement but was not actually a founding member at the time the group came together.

Avengers Trivia Fact #42

Did you know that season 2 of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is slated to start on April 1st on Disney XD? The animated show follows the team that is consisting of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Giant Man (Ant Man as well), Wasp, Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Panther. Atleast two new members are slated to join in Ms. Marvel and The Vision.

The show had some fantastic episodes last season with my favourites being the “Gamma World” 2 Part arc and the 3 part arc that ended season 1 in which Loki conquered 8 of the 9 Realms.

The thing I am most excited for though is Thor is going to get his current costume that is based on the amazing design by artist Olivier Coipel, who is also my favourite Thor artist ever!

Avengers Trivia Fact #41

Did you know that when Marvel Studios told Thor star Chris Hemsworth to bulk up and gain as much muscle mass as possible, he gained so much muscle that had to ban him from the gym?

The director had his Thor armor fit for him just when he started working out and had gained some muscle mass but when they did a brief dress rehearsal to test the costume months later it was way too small for him based on all the muscle mass that he gained.

He was then forbidden to work out at the gym for fear of outgrowing the costume a second time.
