I love music. All of it. I may like some forms of it better than others but overall I am fairly confident to say I am a major music lover. There is something else I love though, women who can rock and roll. There is something about a woman who can either play a musical instrument or belt out a rocking song that catches my eyes and well, my ears as well.
I want to share with you my 5 favorite Rocker Chicks that are currently active and who are also favoured heavily in my current mp3 playlist. Now, people may not agree with my choices but remember something. This is my playlist of music I am drawing from, so therereally there is no wrong answer. These are also in no real order, just as I was listening to the random shuffle of songs on my player.
Anette Olzon (Nightwish)
This Swedish beauty is the front woman for one of the biggest bands in the world, Nightwish. She has such am amazing voice but also seems like a genuine person. Her inner and outer beauty is constantly being mentioned by those who have had the opportunity to meet her in person. She also has gorgeous eyes that draw you into them, even if you try to resist.
The one thing I really like about Anette is that she is always changing, whether it is her physical look or her evolving vocals. Whether she has black hair, brown hair, blonde hair, long hair, medium hair or short hair she is confident enough to pull the different looks off. She also took the challenge of filling some huge shoes as the singer of Nightwish and she has made it her own which displays her commitment to the band and it’s fans. Her hard work at becoming the best front woman that she could shows clearly when you look back over the years since she joined the band. She is an amazing talent.
Jen Ledger (Skillet)
I am not really sure if it is the fact that she has an amazing voice, is beautiful, plays the drums like no one’s business or looks like the girl next door but there is something about Jen that I really like. She really added a new dimension to Skillet with her vocals and they are unique in the music world because of it.
She plays the drums with reckless abandon that appears to not be possible given her size but this gal is a beast on the kit. I would not have really noticed Skillet if it would not have been for Jen’s vocals on “Hero” and I find that she allows them to stand out from the other bands in the world. The band seems to be purposely writing more duets for her to sing and are also reworking other songs to have her included. Smart move.
Klaryssa Korolenkov (Chamber Of Echoes)
Chamber Of Echoes is a hard working band that is based out of Los Angeles at this time and are an up and coming group that offers a very distinct sound. I really can not compare them to any other group I listen to, so I guess they are in a class all of their own, which is a great thing! I will not lie but one of the first things I noticed about the band was singer Klaryssa Korolenkov. There is this sense of mystery and fantasy that surrounds the beautiful Klaryssa that gets your attention.
She is the main creative and driving force behind the band. She worked very hard to get the band to where they are today and they are one of the most fan accessible bands I have ever had the pleasure to interact with. I am suscribed to her Facebook updates and have had brief conversations there about Skyrim and other things. Klaryssa has such a unique look but it really enhances the beautiful and intelligent woman that she is. Being in Canada, I wish I could have the chance to see Chamber Of Echoes play but I will continue to spread the word of the band and their beautiful singer.
Lzzy Hale (Halestorm)
There may not be a truer example of a female who can rock than Lzzy Hale. The gal has amazing vocal talent and can play a mean guitar as well. I have never heard a rock and roll voice from a woman like this before, and I would dare say that Lzzy can also “out rock” over half of his male contemporaries. She is a throw back tot he 1980’s hard rock era.
Her eyes and voice just radiate power that sends you down a path with a sense of false security, but that will change the moment she starts to sing. All the women I have mentioned thus far in this blog are fantastic singers but Lzzy just has a raw and powerful rock and roll vocal that you need to hear to believe.
Melissa Auf der Maur (Hole/Smashing Pumpkins/Solo Artist)
Now I had to have one Canadian on the list or I wouldn’t be a true Canuck. Also, the women plays one of the meanest bass guitars I have ever heard. I do have a bass guitar obsession but when the person who is playing it is someone as talented and beautiful as Melissa Auf der Maur you have hit the jackpot.
Melissa was the bass player in two big bands in Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins but she also started a Black Sabbath tribute band in 2002 named “Hand Of Doom” that she fronted. After these projects ran their course, she has released various solo albums as well. She is also a very accomplished and talented photographer who has had many of her photos published. She is a very talented woman.
So there you have it. My top 5 female rockers that are currently not just rocking out on my MP3 playlist but also catching my eye.
